About the project

A canvas of one billion pixels

The Billion Pixel Wall is an attempt to build the largest digital canvas on the internet, 40,000 by 25,000 pixels, exactly one billion of them, filled in one purchase at a time.

Every pixel costs ten pence. Pixels are sold in blocks of 100 so that every purchase stays crisp and visible, and once a block is claimed, it becomes a permanent part of the canvas. Owners choose a colour, upload a logo or image, add a headline, a link, a tiny advertisement, a tribute, a signature, or whatever they like.

You aren't simply buying pixels. You're joining a public record of everyone who helped build the thing. As the canvas fills, the empty black space becomes a map of the people who arrived first.

The project is engineered to last: a tile-based canvas that renders only what you're looking at, a database designed for millions of purchases, and payments handled by a secure provider so card details never touch our servers.
